Gro-ables Seed Pods FAQs
Are Seed Pods available for flower seed?
For now they are only available in popular herbs and vegetables varieties.
How should Seed Pod be stored and what is its shelf life?
It should be stored in your home in a cool dry place but you shouldn’t freeze it. Humidity and high heat can damage any seed product. It’s recommended that Seed Pods should be planted in the same growing season as they are purchased.
Where should Seed Pods be planted and how much Sun do they need?
Herb and vegetable Seed Pods do well in full Sun condition. A minimum of 8 hours of Sun is advisable for all Gro-ables but plants like lettuce go well with fewer hours of Sun. Seed Pod should be planted in prepared soil meant for growing plants.
How can the soil be prepared for planting Seed Pods?
For successful planting with ease you need to loosen the soil at first. You can also work and turn your native soil to a depth of six inches before planting. Bagged soil can be added while working the soil. You can also add manure, compost so that nutrition and organic matter can be supplemented for plant growth.
For in-ground garden preparation, enriched garden soil like Miracle-Gro Garden Soil for Flowers and Vegetables can also be added to give plants a solid foundation during the garden season. In case you are planting Seed Pods in containers then it’s recommended that you use a mixed design meant for potting. Miracle Gro Moisture Control Potting Mix works quite well.
Can Seed Pods be planted in a container?
Yes you can plant them in appropriate sized containers and raised bed gardens. For different species of plants you want to grow depending on the size they can get up to, you should choose the container size. Normally larger plants like peppers and tomatoes need pots of diameter of at least 18 inches.
Can Seed Pods be planted indoors and how can you grow them indoors?
There are certain Gro-ables that can be started indoors. Plants like pepper and tomato, that take more time to reach maturity, will bear fruit earlier if they are started indoors weeks before it is warm enough to plant outdoors. Herbs and leafy greens can also be started indoors and you can have ingredients for your salads and side dishes right from your windowsill.
If you want to grow them indoors it’s important that they are placed in a Sunny window or there is supplemental light to make sure there’s strong growth. You can plant them in a four inch pot that is filled with Miracle Gro All-Purpose Potting Mix. Seed Pods should be kept moist but not wet till and after germination. Most types of seedlings can be transplanted to the outdoors when they are about 4 to 6 inches taller. But plants should be acclimatized to outdoors before moving them.
Why shouldn’t Seed Pod be covered with soil?
Seeds are already in a proper seed depth, which is why there is no need for an added layer of soil. In fact extra layer of soil can have a negative impact on germination.
How often should Seed Pods be watered?
On days when there is no rain, Seed Pods should be watered daily. You can use a watering can or gentle shower nozzle on the end of the hose.
If the conditions are very dry and warm, you might want to give your Seed Pods some more water. It’s more essential when they are planted in containers.
How much water do they need?
When it’s watered, you can use the soil around it as a gauge. It’s a good idea to water till there are puddles around the soil.
Is other plant food required for Seed Pods?
30 days after planting, Seed Pods should be fed. Miracle Gro Shake and Feed Tomato, Fruit and Vegetables Continuous Release Plant Food plus Calcium are your good bets.
Is there a reason for more than one sprout/seed in Seed Pod?
There are multiple seeds in Seed Pods to ensure that a seedling will grow. If there is more than one sprout then you can thin the seedlings so that there is one per Seed Pod, once they get to about 2-3 inches of height.
What can happen if the sprouts are not thinned?
If it is not thinned then the plants will be competing with each other for light, food and water. It can lead to lower yields and smaller plants.
What can be done if Seed Pod is pushed out of the soil it was planted it?
It’s a good idea to leave it alone if the plant is already established and the roots are already secure in the soil. If soil has settled around the pod after watering, additional soil can be added around it but you shouldn’t bury it.
Do the roots grow through the shell?
According to research, Seed Pod shell doesn’t inhibit root growth to a developing plant.
What to do if Seed Pod is not growing?
If the Seed Pod hasn’t sprouted
1. Make a note of the temperature because cool-season species are sensitive to warmer temperatures while warm species get affected by cold and frost.
2. Make sure that Seed Pods get adequate water. When it’s not raining, water them gently but thoroughly.
3. Make sure they are planted where the soil is good and they get enough Sun. They have to be planted with the pointed end down. Lid should be removed and the Seed Pod should not be covered under soil.
4. The seed can get damaged before planting in case Seed Pod is exposed to moisture, humidity, freezing conditions or high heat. If it does get wet it’s best to plant it the same day.
If Seed Pod sprouts but the growing has stopped or is slow
1. It could be because it’s not getting enough Sunlight or is not planted in soil that is not well prepared or loosened.
2. You should check if the planting has been disturbed by an animal. If Seed Pod is intact you can replant it using the same instructions. Make sure they are protected from animal damage.
3. Ensure they haven’t been accidentally exposed to fertilizers and herbicides not meant for herbs and vegetables.
4. It should also be checked for insect or disease damage.
What can you do if an animal has caused damage to Seed Pod?
Firstly, check if the Seed Pod contents are intact. If they are then it can be replanted using the same instructions. Use proper precautions to avoid animal damage in the future.

Warm Summer evenings are needed for Sweet Pepper to turn red. But they are also delicious in their un-ripened green state.
What if Loose-Leaf Lettuce is not turning red?
When the sunlight is intense, the red coloration of loose-leaf lettuce is more. If the growing season has been cloudy or if Seed Pod didn’t get enough Sun then the red colour will be less intense.
When does Seed Pod biodegrade? Does it have to be dug up after the season?
In most instances, the plant biodegrades during the growing season. However environmental factors like temperature, moisture and type of soil will determine how quickly it breaks down.
You don’t have to dig up the Seed Pod after the season is over. If there are remnants of Seed Pod from the previous season then will continue to decompose, giving more organic matter and nutrition to the soil.
